Continuous learning is not just for the younger generation. I believe that everything is possible as long as you put your mind and heart into it. Hence, with a desire to expand my knowledge, improve the standard of my work and elevate my professional marketability, I decided to embark on this Master of Business Administration (MBA) journey despite being in my early fifties. I eventually decided to pursue my MBA with Murdoch University at Kaplan as it is known for its industry-leading experience in teaching. Furthermore, my colleagues and friends have also left good reviews about their education at Murdoch University.
What I have learnt from the MBA programme, such as double-loop learning and applying decision-making fundamentals to difficult situations, has enhanced my recognition of why multinational companies transition into certain areas for growth. The in-depth discussions held among lecturers and students have enabled me to comprehend how to have a paradox mindset. With this skillset, we can relate and make sense collectively as a team, communicate and align our vision, and work together towards a common goal.
The peers that I have interacted with in my study groups have allowed me to understand different dynamics and functional intricacies. Apart from my learnings, my network of peers is my most valued acquisition. I would recommend Murdoch University as its lessons are interesting, and they encourage healthy and respectful debates among students.
Deputy Medical Director, a HK-listed Medical Group
Master of Business Administration
Murdoch University Graduate (2022)
While previously working as a Physician Lead in a large medical group, I was determined to diversify my career. Instead of limiting myself to a purely clinical role, I wanted to expand my role into one that involves other facets of the Healthcare industry. Hence, I decided to take on the Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Murdoch University.
Not only did this MBA provide me with knowledge about the commercial aspects of the Medicine and Healthcare industry, but it has also given me the confidence to present well and speak with conviction for a more effective pitch of my ideas. While the MBA is just the beginning of my journey to career progression, it has given me the skills to make the right connections.
After attaining my Master’s Degree, I received job offers from other clinic groups who are recruiting for a Physician Lead and Medical Director position. Eventually, I managed to secure a leadership role in Medical Affairs in a pharmaceutical company, which had been my long-term goal.

Master of Science in Information Technology (Artificial Intelligence & Data Science)
Murdoch University Student (2021)
Murdoch University was my choice for postgraduate studies, as the school would provide me with a globally-recognised credential and an enriching university experience.
I decided to pursue this Master’s programme as I have a strong interest in Data Science. It deals with huge volumes of data and uses modern tools and techniques to uncover unseen patterns, derive meaningful insights, and make operational decisions. The programme curriculum is very structured, and its relevance to my current job scope has helped me to add value to my work.
The University provides excellent student support with its online platform, where relevant resources are easily available. For example, I can access the online Murdoch University Library anytime to look up journals and articles for my research. The unit coordinators are also easily contactable via email, should one have any queries on the modules.
Studying at Kaplan also provides me with a flexible study schedule, which is important as I am working full-time. These positive factors were what gave me the confidence to embark on the programme. Undertaking part-time post-graduate studies while juggling with full-time work and family life is no walk in the park. Ever since embarking on this programme, I have become more disciplined and effective in managing my time.

Double Masters – Master of Business Administration & Master of Human Resources Management (MBA-MHRM)
Murdoch University Graduate (2021)
I wanted to add value to myself by learning relevant knowledge and skills, so after researching, I decided to pursue a Double Master’s Degree (Master of Business Administration and Master of Human Resources Management) with Murdoch University as it was the best choice for me.
I think the Postgraduate Degree was necessary to help me get ahead in my career. Without a doubt, it has given me an edge over my colleagues. Having the Degree is a justification to my capabilities as an individual for future career opportunities.
During the programme, I juggled work and studies by managing my time and priorities carefully. This experience helped me in many areas. My time management improved, along with my ability to prioritise. It also instilled in me a greater sense of discipline to finish my tasks within the scheduled time frames, even during difficult periods. One of the most surprising benefits is increased self-confidence, as I can look back and reflect on how I earned my masters because of the effort I had put into achieving that goal despite the many hurdles I had to overcome.
When I finally graduated, it evoked a very fulfilling sense of achievement and I am happy to have pursued the Double Master’s Degree with Murdoch, which provided me with the knowledge and support I needed.
My advice to those who are thinking of pursuing a Postgraduate Degree is this: Everyday we face changes and new demands. As the world becomes more competitive, investing in ourselves will be the best investment and you can do so by securing a Master’s Degree to develop yourself to stay competitive and relevant.

Double Masters – Master of Business Administration and Master of Information Technology (Artificial Intelligence & Data Science) (MBA-MIT)
Murdoch University Student (2022)
Murdoch University’s Double Master’s Degree offering was too good to miss. With the same duration in a typical single Master’s programme, I could achieve two such Masters Degrees and proficiency in two domains.
The dual programme is meaningful to current working professionals, as gone are the days when one could be content with strong knowledge in one domain. Now, a Double Masters will give us the needed advantage.
The school offers flexible study options and personalised courses, which are important to me as a working adult with commitments. Having the luxury to personalise the courses lets me manage my time better. For instance, knowing I would be working on a data-related project later in the year, I enrolled in a data course beforehand to prepare myself.
Even with virtual learning (due to the pandemic), there is no compromise on the quality of teaching. The lecturers have a vast knowledge of the subjects and the ability to impart relevant academic and personal experience to students. The programme also encourages class engagement.
One of the most invaluable takeaways from this programme is getting to learn from fellow classmates. You will not find a better place to network and learn from others than in the MBA-MIT programme, as the programme is taken by working professionals, many of whom have years of experience.
My dual Masters programme aside, I had previously graduated with a Degree in Digital Business from University College Dublin, another partner University at Kaplan, which enabled me to progress in my professional career.

Going through this course has provided me with the theoretical knowledge from an academic perspective, allowing me to combine my practical experience with the strength of the academic knowledge in my decision making. I am able to apply my Postgraduate Degree knowledge to what I do now, and it has definitely helped me to plan my business growth strategies for the future.
For example, modules such as Business, Society and Environment gave me more knowledge in my consulting work with clients, such as how the trending subject presently is Environment, Sustainability and Governance (ESG). Furthermore, the Leading an Engaged Enterprise module provided me with a deeper understanding of how to motivate and manage my staff better.
Networking was the best part about taking up an MBA. Through this course, I got to meet managers and other business owners to share ideas and knowledge with each other.

I have found that a Postgraduate Degree does not just open up job opportunities for me in my area of study. In fact, it will facilitate my career transition to more senior management positions and leadership roles.
The Postgraduate programme helped me to improve my research, writing and analysis skills. As a result, I have become a better problem solver who can tackle complex projects with more ease. The programme also prepared me for a life of constant learning. As a graduate student, I connected with professionals who are successful in their careers. That has provided me with real-world knowledge through a valuable network of professionals. Furthermore, I achieved a promotion after graduating with my Postgraduate Degree and was offered a change to my job scope in Marketing.
I have never second guessed my choice to study a Postgraduate Degree with Murdoch University at Kaplan in Singapore. I really liked the course structure, and the quality of some of Kaplan’s lecturers was a highlight of my University experience. I also love how students have access to various courses through the very user-friendly online learning portal, where I could find daily lectures, assignments, task details, tutorials and listen to online recordings whenever I need to.

I had moved to a new role that provided me with a wider scope of work, exposure and visibility that included global and regional responsibilities, compared to my previous role with responsibilities confined to Singapore.
The programme taught me to think critically, and challenge existing ideas and implement new ones to do my job better. The programme helped me to understand the job function and make new suggestions to improve operations.
As for which aspects of the programme I liked the most, that would be the lecturers, classmates and subjects. The modules were brought to life by having good lecturers.
I had learned to juggle work and studies since pursuing the Murdoch Bachelor of Business Degree programme. The flexibility of the timetable helped me to manage schoolwork, assignments and complete tutorials. Thanks to the great experience in the Bachelor’s Degree programme, I continued on to pursue the MBA with Kaplan as well, knowing very well that the timetable and time management were within my control.
The demands of the MBA programme were tougher, but I managed to do well, with good teammates and lecturers who sincerely cared about education, learning and development.

I was driven to pursue a Postgraduate Degree for personal development. It has helped me to reassess my thought process and develop a more critical approach to problem solving. The programme has worked very effectively towards making me a more disciplined future business leader, as it gave me perspective and helped me equip myself with better instincts.
By studying for a Postgraduate Degree, I have developed skills such as business management and entrepreneurship, business strategy and leadership management, time management, research, presentation and writing. The programme has helped me to work within a team and consider different perspectives.
Working and studying at the same time can be really challenging, but the outcome is fulfilling. I would advise those thinking of taking up a Postgraduate Degree to be mentally prepared, determined and enjoy the learning process.

I was driven to pursue a Postgraduate Degree as I wanted the value-add from learning relevant skills and knowledge. After researching, I decided to pursue my MBA with Murdoch University as it was the best choice for me. The MBA Degree has, without a doubt, given me an edge over my colleagues.
The course has equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed for my role and led to me become more recognised by employers due to my qualifications. I am able to apply the knowledge and skills to my job. They include Business Finance, which is highly related to my role in calculating and deriving investment tool returns, as well as Global Business in the Asian Century, which has helped me to get along with colleagues from different backgrounds.
I like how the programme encourages students to work and communicate together in setting up project assignments. This was one of the best takeaways from the programme for me, as I made good friends, and we learn from and help one another even after graduation.
After achieving my Postgraduate Degree, I secured career advancement in UBS, a top-tier investment bank, to work in the front office as an Execution Trader, and then moved on to J.P. Morgan in a Credit Risk Management role. I had also received job offers from other banks.
Investing in yourself by securing an MBA Degree to remain competitive and relevant is the best investment in this era!

The initial motivation to pursue a Postgraduate Degree was based on a personal challenge to better myself academically. But upon completing my programme, I have found myself constantly applying what I had learnt in my daily work, especially in managing the company.
The programme was challenging at first, but with work-from-home (WFH) being the default mode of working at my company and classes transitioning online, I saved a lot of time on commuting and juggled work and studies better. In addition, the support from my colleagues, clients, family and friends enabled me to manage my work and studies concurrently.
My advice to those who are thinking of taking up a Postgraduate Degree is, do not let your age put you off the idea. For those who have not been to school for a long time, the initial adjustments as a student may be a little uncomfortable, but with determination and tenacity, nothing is impossible.

The Postgraduate Degree programme teaches knowledge and skills that are relevant for real-life situations and enables you to have an in-depth understanding of the topics that could be applied.
In addition, Murdoch University provides the flexibility to plan your curriculum according to your schedule, which made juggling between my work and studies easier.
The Finance module was one of my favourite aspects of the programme, especially the knowledge we learned such as the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM), which is applicable to both work and personal life.
A Postgraduate Degree is advisable to those who wish to broaden their knowledge and work towards their goals. The most important part of preparation would be time management, but it will all be worthwhile at the end of the day. As they say,“never stop learning, because life never stops teaching.”

This Postgraduate Degree programme has helped me in my career, as the knowledge gained and the MBA Degree qualification have certainly strengthened my academic profile and made me a more qualified candidate for senior-level management positions.
I get to apply the knowledge and skill sets from my programme to what I do now. For instance, the Accounting and Finance modules have strengthened my knowledge, as a senior management staff with Profit and Loss responsibility. The Business, Society and the Environment module is relevant to sustainability, one of the hottest topics in the world today, while the module on Leading the Engaged Enterprise has brought a new dimension to the right approaches that modern leaders should adopt.
Networking is one of the best parts about taking up the MBA programme. The opportunity to get to know, communicate and work with people from different age groups, countries and cultures was always very exciting and interesting to me.
I had the chance to experience hybrid learning due to the pandemic, one of the aspects of the programme I liked most. While physical interactions are always fun and enjoyable, home-based learning has trained me to adapt faster to the reality of the business world today.
Anyone with a considerable amount of work experience who wants to stay relevant with new skills and knowledge, and who has a strong passion to meet and work with different people of all levels should take up this Postgraduate Degree programme.

I was driven to pursue a Postgraduate Degree to fulfill a personal goal and to set a standard for my children. Completing the programme helped me achieve my aim to renew my existing knowledge and ready myself to embark on new role for any organisation I choose to be with.
The senior management in my company do recognise the value of my Postgraduate Degree, as I now get to undertake more responsibilities related to what I have learned. Furthermore, I get to apply the new knowledge and skill sets to my current job.
The start of the first term was challenging, but my passionate lecturer for the module, Leading the Engaged Enterprise, showed me how to overcome the difficulties and changed the way I engaged with the class for the rest of the term. This helped me to persevere and to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
My advice to those considering pursuing a Postgraduate Degree, is to exercise self-discipline and self-confidence – stay focused and finish what you start.

Master of Business Administration (MBA)
Murdoch University Graduate (2021)
I still remember the night when I received an email saying that I had been accepted into the Murdoch University MBA programme. It was like a dream come true! I strongly believe that this programme can inspire me to combine sport and business for ideas that will enhance the sporting fraternity in Singapore.
Of all the subjects, I liked the Business, Society and the Environment unit the most, as it illuminates serious global issues like climate change resulting from mankind’s crossing of planetary boundaries, and how the government and businesses can work hand in hand to address these whole-of-nation issues collectively.
Leading the Engaged Enterprise unit is another favourite of mine, as it challenged my mental model and changed my initial thoughts about the idea of real leadership. I also learnt to manage the creative tension between my vision and current reality, to help me achieve my goals.
During the course, it was challenging to balance studies, family responsibilities and work commitments – especially when many deadlines would clash. Thankfully, through the programme, I learned to master “ambidexterity”, which is the ability to manage paradoxes and be efficient in one’s management of today's demands as well as being adaptive to changes in the environment simultaneously.
To me, obtaining an MBA Degree is about personal development, acquiring knowledge and networking. I am in my 40s, but in the spirit of lifelong learning, age is just a number. I believe the five distinctions I have achieved in my transcript says it all.
My advice to those thinking of pursuing a Postgraduate Degree is to be mentally prepared to live a period of your life like most people will not, so that you can enjoy a life most people cannot. The most difficult part of the journey is to overcome the inertia in taking that first step. Once you overcome it, the rest is history.

What drove me to pursue a Postgraduate Degree was the desire to remain competitive in the market, to upgrade myself, and for career progression. To me, an educational qualification is a form of personal development. While different from a professional accreditation (which would be relevant to my field of work), I see this as advantageous to have on my resume, as it is an accomplishment and reflects positively on one’s attitude to learn and advance.
As my role is a corporate function, the knowledge I gained during the programme is useful to my work. When speaking with commercial partners, I can understand and relate to them, and am able to provide feasible solutions. The programme has also helped me to develop my strategic thinking.
It was a good experience being back in a classroom setting (whether online or in-person), learning alongside students from different backgrounds but with the same motivations and objectives. I heard about and learned from their experiences and gained different perspectives on the best way to perform my work duties. I also had a great time working with different teammates – we supported each other to get the work done.

Murdoch University Student (2021)
I had previously completed my Master of Science in Marketing and decided to further fortify my credentials by pursuing a Murdoch University MBA Degree, which will help sharpen my business acumen and broaden my horizons across leadership, finance and strategy domains.
My job requires me to work extensively with C-suite leadership, including the marketing, finance, corporate strategy, human resources and operations teams. My team plays a pivotal role in driving the organisation’s marketing strategy by providing valuable insights to cross-functional teams for performance steering. So, it is a huge plus if I can understand their lingo and appreciate their perspectives. This would allow us to collaborate better and work towards a common goal.
During the MBA programme, I addressed real-world business challenges, which honed my ability to see beyond my role and understand how organisations operate. This also increased my exposure to diverse perspectives on global, social and business issues as I collaborated with peers whose backgrounds, experiences and career goals differ from mine.
Given that I work in a super fast-paced environment, the MBA programme’s flexible schedule and highly relevant course content, that balances theoretical and experience-based learning in both a classroom and ‘real-world setting’, allowed me to complete the programme in a way that was suited to my work commitments. Upon completion of my Murdoch MBA this year, I was promoted to Vice President of Marketing Analytics.

Double Masters – Master of Business Administration and Master of Human Resources Management (MBA-MHRM)
Murdoch University Student (2021)
Getting a Postgraduate Degree has been on my checklist for some time and it was one of my New Year resolutions for 2020. I decided to pursue the degree to gain deeper insights into the human resources industry and increase my HR competency. As HR roles are becoming increasingly specialised and diverse, having a double masters would help me get ahead.
As a HR professional, attaining a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management would help me stay updated on the current HR trends, and increase my expertise in the different focus areas of HR. This is extremely valuable as I will be able to apply my learning directly to my role.
The programme is relevant to the changing business environment, with real-world case studies and discussion topics that enhance our critical thinking skills and teach us to be great problem-solvers! The many groupwork assignments let me engage with classmates from other industries – this cross-learning allows us to learn from each other, beyond what is taught in the classroom. Networking with my classmates and lecturers also allows me to develop valuable relationships that would help me advance in the professional world.
Postgraduate studies can be very demanding, especially when you also work full-time. But I have managed to juggle between work and studies by developing a realistic study plan and schedule. Overall, it has been a great experience – productive, educational, and fun!

My reason for pursuing a postgraduate degree was a bit different. Since I am already at the top of my organisation, pursuing the MBA would not have elevated my position at work. As cliché as it sounds, I wanted to hone the necessary professional skills and foster my personal development.
I believe that postgraduate studies are not just a means to a better job or different career path. For students with a genuine passion for a particular topic or area of research – for me, that would be my wellness business – advanced degrees provide the ideal platform to delve deeper.
In classes, my participation was sincerely welcomed. I learnt that you do not always have to be right. In fact, it is good to be wrong sometimes – you will always be learning more and advancing your ideas. My favourite module was Business, Society and the Environment. I thoroughly enjoyed engaging in discursive debates on climate change, as well as how businesses have impacted the climate. In fact, after graduation, I went straight to developing a project incorporating the goals of sustainability, which hopefully can be shared with the public by the third quarter.
I also discovered that incorporating responsible business practices are no longer just a ‘nice to have’, but an essential part of any business venture. Regardless of the size of a company, we all have a part to play to give back to society. Little drops of water make the mighty ocean, and every effort counts.

Senior Business Unit Leader Of Aerospace MNC Reveals How An Executive Master's Helped Him To Progress
Tasked with heading an entire business unit in an international aerospace company, Gregory Mariotto is responsible for the Profit and Loss (P&L), manpower and operations management of his unit. Greg (as he prefers to be called) is also very involved in developing strategic plans with the company’s senior management.
Meeting Senior Leadership Expectations
After close to 15 years of service, Greg felt that it was time to further his education as a formal recognition of his current skillset. His decision was also partly driven by the expectations the organisation had of their senior ranking personnel.
“In MNCs, there’s an expectation for business leaders to hold a Master’s Degree or its equivalent. After considering several options, I picked Murdoch University’s Executive Master in Leadership, Strategy and Innovation (E-learning). It was the best choice because it offered content that is highly relevant to my career, a flexible schedule, and the resources for me to study whenever time permits from anywhere in the world,” Greg shared.
Anchored in Leadership, Strategy and Innovation
A driven goal-getter, Greg opined that the Executive Master’s three pillars of leadership, strategy and innovation suited a senior business leader like himself. These competencies helped him to catalyse his team performance, integrate business strategy with operations, and create greater value for his company.
‘The Manager as Performance Coach’ unit gave me greater self-awareness. I found the self-development tools instrumental in creating a more collaborative approach to performance management with my staff,” Greg offered. “Beyond this, the ‘Strategy to Operations’ unit provided helpful case studies to supplement the concepts taught. It has helped me to understand the different strategy models well enough for me to apply what I have learned to improve my business unit’s strategy and deployment.”
Greg was also pleased that the Executive Master in Leadership, Strategy and Innovation (E-learning)’s intensive and modular curriculum allowed him to complete his studies in a year as opposed to a more drawn-out three-year part-time programme.
Why Greg Chose an Executive Master’s Degree over a Master’s Degree
When asked why he picked an Executive Master’s Degree over a Master’s Degree programme, Greg shared his observations, “I noticed while interviewing potential employees that some of the candidates were unable to apply the concepts taught in their Master’s programmes as they didn’t have any working experience. This led me to feel strongly about only taking a programme that builds on first-hand professional experiences, real-life application of concepts, and sharing of best practices amongst participants.
“I gravitated towards Murdoch University’s Executive Master in Leadership, Strategy and Innovation (E-learning) programme because I grew up in Western Australia and am very well aware of Murdoch University’s exemplary reputation. The programme content is highly relevant. I am confident that the knowledge would prove useful in my career where I need to apply leadership principles, strategic thinking and innovative vision,” added Greg.
Beyond the need for relevant work experiences, Greg also felt that the flexibility and online learning opportunities offered by the programme met his demanding schedules.
“My job requires me to travel extensively; sometimes, at a fairly short notice. Executive Master’s e-learning programme delivery mode enables me to catch up with the class from anywhere in the world and at any time - as long as I have an internet connection. I appreciate the ability to view recorded lectures and read e-books as well as other course material from the comfort of my hotel room while I’m travelling,” said Greg.
High Praise for the EMLSI
Greg counts himself lucky as his organisation provides full sponsorship for employees seeking higher education. He shared that the Executive Master’s programme has garnered high praise from the company and that he would definitely to recommend it - albeit with a caveat.
“The experience and diversity of the cohort are extremely important in this programme as it provides different viewpoints, ways of doing things and a variety of solutions to a wide range of problems. A lack of real-world experience before embarking on this Executive Master’s programme may dilute the learning outcomes,” he opined.

Master of Business Administration
Murdoch University Student (2018)
Despite graduating with a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry) Degree from NUS, I never put what I learned into practice. I began my career as an administrator in the civil service.
Though comfortable at work, I felt that the job was too deskbound. I nursed a desire to forge a new career in education where I could engage in more social interaction with students and plan events for them.
Unlike others who obtained an MBA to advance their careers in their existing field, my decision to embark on an MBA is to make a career switch. For working professionals like me who want a career switch, an MBA helps to open more doors to different industries and enable me to be more relevant to the industry’s needs.
I invested my MBA from Murdoch University offered through Kaplan in Singapore. I could have the best of both worlds - Murdoch University enjoys an excellent reputation internationally while Kaplan in Singapore is continuously rated as one of the best private institutions in Singapore.
Having an MBA improved my job prospects significantly. I received more job offers when I informed prospective employers that I am currently doing my Master’s Degree.
I can embark on a new career in student relations at an institution of higher learning a lot faster than I anticipated. It was like a dream come true.
I think an MBA education opens our minds to view situations from different perspectives and makes us more agiler in devising solutions.

Having been through 2 retrenchments in my career, I am a great believer of “future-proofing” my job security through constant upskilling and learning. In fact, I credited my continuous training as the factor that gave me the edge to land a managerial role in the public sector, within a month after my second retrenchment.
I was determined to take my MBA after I witnessed how automation could easily displace technical roles, and strategic knowledge would be the key differentiator in taking one’s career further.
As a mature learner, I’m back in class with a huge appetite for knowledge that will empower me. I am an engineer by training and was used to learning fixed methods to solve problems. Through MBA subjects like Strategic Management, I learnt new perspectives and varied approaches to problems. It was a mind-blowing experience that lends deep insight on how to align the micro and macro environments for better competitiveness.
I choose Murdoch MBA due to its affordability and flexibility. It allowed me to complete the programme at a pace that suited me. I deem this is one of the best investments that would pay good future dividends. I also derive joy learning from lecturers with extensive industry experience, and engage with students as partners in learning.

During my course of work, I had interviewed many job applicants from junior to managerial positions for the company. I had reviewed many of the applicants’ resumes and observed that their highest academic qualification is a Bachelor's Degree. I knew that to stay competitive and relevant in the market, it is a must for me to attain higher level of academic qualification especially at my current position as a General Manager. I have the interest to further my studies but I had also kept it at bay for the past 8 years until now.
Holding this important role for the company, people look to me for directions. I must have the analytical skills and competency in making sound business decisions for the company. I am confident that I possess the working experience and the know-how in running our businesses.
My company is in the field of Biomedical Science. This fast-growing industry is becoming very challenging and competitive. I played an important role in my company’s expansion plan recently. It is in this very specific situation, the MBA programme has helped me gain better knowledge to connect with what I practice in my company. I have acquired new management techniques, approaches and new skillsets through some of the modules that had enabled me to contribute more efficiently and effectively in my role to the company.
My classmates in the MBA programme, coming from different companies and backgrounds, from civil servants to SME to MNCs, enabled me to access a wider network and further avail opportunities for my company’s business success.
I will definitely recommend this MBA to others given its academic and professional qualification are of recognition value to me.

Well-aware of how skills and knowledge are one of the most valuable assets for my career success, I decided to advance my credentials by pursuing a Master of Business Administration programme with Murdoch University. Beyond my desire to rise up the Corporate ladder, I wanted to broaden my horizons and enhance my ability to exercise reliable judgement, especially in the workplace.
Indeed, modules I undertook during my Postgraduate Degree were extremely useful in developing my open mindset towards analysing certain scenarios. As the Head of Product Management for the Asia Pacific, I had to travel extensively. Pursuing an MBA has always been one of my life goals. The MBA programme has helped me get ahead in my career, and offered varied learning experiences through mutual sharing with my group mates. Class discussions were fruitful and served as an excellent avenue for me to accumulate rich knowledge through the exchange of ideas amongst peers and lecturers. What truly stood out for me was the Leading the Engaged Enterprise unit that challenged me to think on my feet and equipped me with invaluable management skills, such as the soft skills to motivate a team towards achieving common goals.
Within six months of attaining my MBA qualification, my company promoted me to Section Leader of the department, where I assumed greater responsibility in overseeing engineering operations. It has equipped me with professional expertise in business administration and leadership, covering units such as Accounting, Strategic Marketing Management and Business Finance, which are essential at the management level. An added advantage of studying this programme, is that it has built my confidence and capacity to tackle similar problems discussed in class within the context of real-life. The wealth of knowledge shared by lecturers has also developed my learning aptitude.
Upon completion, I believe graduates of this MBA programme will emerge as confident, well-rounded individuals equipped to advance in their career.

Master of Business Administration

Equipped with only a Bachelor of Business (majoring in Economics and Finance), I soon felt that an Accounting specific qualification was necessary to advance my education and career to the next level.
I acquired a postgraduate qualification in MBA (Master of Business Administration) with Murdoch University to raise the bar of my educational objectives and career progression. I found the MBA course relevant to my practical work experiences, offering comprehensive exposure to the analytical tools required to make sound business decisions, and enabling student development in areas such as accounting, marketing, environmental management, electronic business, finance and general management. It provided me many learning opportunities, including networking sessions with my diverse classmates from various industries.

Finance Manager
International Firm, Telecommunication Industry
Master of Professional Accounting
Murdoch University Graduate (2018)
In hopes to deepen my professional knowledge that would allow me to perform my job more efficiently and add value to the company, I enrolled into Murdoch University Master of Professional Accounting.
As Finance Manager, my responsibilities already include budgeting, accounting, and financial reporting. Murdoch’s enriching curriculum provided me a helicopter view on a finance perspective, rather than a specific field such as Accounting practices. Understanding the basic requirements and principles of accounting, and having a broader knowledge of financial perspectives helped me and my counterparts evaluate financial situations in an objective manner.
Reflecting on my experience, I not only gained in-depth knowledge in accounting but also new soft skills in people and work management such as coaching others. For a start, the Management Accounting, Accounting Theory and Governance, Accounting Processes, and Taxation Principles modules provided her a new perspective on making informed managerial decisions and report to local authorities. The fresh insights gained from her Master of Professional Accounting gave me greater confidence when reviewing accounting processes with my superior. Overall, I am credit my MBA for enabling me to communicate more effectively with overseas counterparts who use different accounting policies.

Executive Master in Leadership, Strategy and Innovation (E-learning)
Murdoch University Student (2019)
I like how Murdoch University tailored the Executive Master in Leadership, Strategy and Innovation programme to deliver an educational experience with a focus that is not on a particular field or profession. It balances theoretical and experience-based learning in both the classroom and ‘real-world’ setting, enhancing knowledge and experience- sharing in class and allowing me to engage with students from a variety of backgrounds.
While doing shift work, the added accessibility to review lectures online via recordings through the Curator and Blackboard Collaborate systems, allows us to engage with fellow students anywhere in real-time. This is a significant benefit for other working professionals and I. My classmates come from a range of industries: oil and gas, aviation, sports administration, not-for-profit charities, and emergency services, giving me a variety of perspectives from understanding of the various business models, key performance indicators to strategy models applied in different industries.
I have been able to directly apply everything learnt in numerous ways within my current career, with particular emphasis on the leadership and strategy themes. I believe my Master’s Degree will place me in good standing for further advancement within my organisation.

"Education". A word so commonly used and so important in our 21st century, yet it has a different meaning to each one of us. Looking back at my past 2 years studying the MBA course, I am filled with gratefulness, mainly for the privilege to expand the knowledge and skills which are applicable and relevant in my vocation. Being a full-time working adult while taking an MBA was no easy task as I needed to find a new momentum in my daily routines. However, it is through these challenges that I am also thankful for the meaningful experiences and professionalism that Murdoch University at Kaplan has offered.
The curriculum and pedagogical approaches adopted by the University throughout my MBA course have made me re-evaluate the guiding principles behind my perspectives. Education is more than attaining a qualification. It is, for me, the platform offered by an educational institute to individuals who want to make a positive impact on both their personal lives and society. Education challenges your own assumptions and questions your own thought process, which helps to form new knowledge.
I believe that education is also about learning to appreciate diversity in our society. This is important to me as I meet people from all walks of life daily in my work. Being able to help them meant that I first needed to upgrade my skills, and this was what motivated me to pursue the MBA. Equipping myself with these new skills has helped me to better engage my team and clients.
Many have said that networking is the best part of the MBA programme and I agree. The friendships forged and the discussions we had enabled me to broaden my perspectives. I particularly enjoyed the Leading the Engaged Enterprise module. As a team lead, I find myself always aiming to inspire and nurture my team to fulfil their highest potential. The insights gained from this module have definitely helped me with that.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “An investment in knowledge pays the best interest “. Some advice I will give to those who are considering a Postgraduate Degree is to be certain of your reasons for doing so. Take some time to list them down and talk to experienced individuals. Of course, once you have decided to do so, you need to be ready to make some sacrifices, but know that it will be worthwhile.
Thank you, Murdoch University and Kaplan, for providing me this life-changing opportunity to study your MBA programme. I am confident that it will expand my horizons and carry me through life.

I also appreciate how the programme gave me the opportunity to network with people from various industries and career paths, and I would say that this was the best part of the programme. From a management and leadership perspective, I am now equipped with the knowledge to better practice my leadership qualities in both my career and personal life. Juggling work and study was a challenge. However, I believe that anyone in a management position should take up this Postgraduate Degree programme.

Healthcare Industry
Master of Business Administration
Murdoch University Graduate (2021)
Having been trained in the hard sciences as a doctor, I felt that I needed to gain a business perspective of the healthcare industry as I was working as an Assistant Medical Director at the time, and later, as a Senior Manager (Operations).
Thus, I decided to pursue an MBA programme to acquire the theoretical fundamentals on running a business. The decision to pursue the programme at Murdoch University was a fruitful one, as it allowed me to function more efficiently as a healthcare administrator. The technical skills I learned through modules such as Accounting, and Business Finance allowed me to better make sense of balance sheets and profit and loss (P&L) statements, which I encounter in my course of work.
What I like most about the programme is that it gave me the flexibility to complete the modules at my own pace. Additionally, the modules were well-taught by the lecturers, who were both knowledgeable and engaging. My advice to those considering taking up a Postgraduate Degree is, do not hesitate to take up the MBA programme at Murdoch University, as it is a proven programme which will adequately arm you with the knowledge and technical skills on business administration.
